Plank Junior High Philosophy
We strive to instill in each student the value of physical activity, health, and well-being so that each student can develop healthy lifestyle habits which lead to a lifetime of excellence in health and overall wellness.
It is our philosophy that Physical Education is part of the total education process. The curriculum provides carefully planned and specific information and activities. Basic concepts in Physical Education will give students the knowledge, skills, opportunities, and strategies needed to achieve and maintain life-long fitness participation.
Kinetic Wellness Philosophy: Why we are here….
As a result of this Kinetic Wellness philosophy, we want all students to achieve our overall goals for Kinetic Wellness, as follows:
Learning Standards: What will I learn?
Objective 1
Acquire movement skills and understand concepts needed to engage in physical activity to improve health.
Objective 2
Achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness based upon continual self-assessment
Objective 3
Develop team-building skills by working with others through physical activity
Objective 4
Understand principles of health promotion, prevention and treatment of illness and injury
Objective 5
Understand human body systems and factors that influence growth and development
Objective 6
Promote and enhance health and well-being through the use of effective communication and decision making skills.
**Objectives will be achieved through various forms of planned activities that encourage gross motor and fine motor movements daily. Activities will include: Individual/dual activities, personal safety, team sports, core fitness, personal health promotion, plyometric training, mobility/joint flexibility, weight training and peer to peer collaboration/communication. It is expected that all students give their personal best and demonstrate a positive attitude.

- Enhance the skill level of each student in a variety of activities, so that they may develop a positive attitude towards Kinetic Wellness.
- Build a greater appreciation and desire to participate in fitness activities, through physical activity and
- Increase the cognitive knowledge of each student regarding fitness and the application of positive decision making skills.
- Develop health related knowledge in body systems, first aid and safety, nutrition, diseases, chemical use, sex education, and communication so that they make better decisions regarding their health.
- Encourage sportsmanship and participation in team-building skills and social interactions
- Promote a safe and positive social interaction within the school environment by utilizing the Character Counts pillars (Respect, Trustworthiness, Caring, Fairness, Citizenship and Respect).
